PAUEME005 – PROVIDE PAIN MANAGEMENT

This course will allow you to develop skills and knowledge and most importantly, confidence, to administer restricted analgesic to provide pain management as part of a medically supervised first responder organisation. It includes identifying the need for analgesia, accessing, preparing and administering restricted pain relief such as analgesics and aspirin according to medically endorsed protocols, performing casualty handovers and completing analgesic use requirements.

Providing pain management requires instruction and practical training. This is especially true where it relates to storing, accessing, preparing and administering restricted analgesic drugs. As with any training, it is more useful if training occurs before being confronted with an actual real-life situation.

Licensing requirements for the storage and administration of drugs may apply depending on the organisation, type of drug, state/territory, etc.

This course is delivered and assessed on behalf of Allens Training Pty Ltd RTO 90909 by Wayne Cook First Aid.

The following unit will be awarded to successful participants in this course. The Statement of Attainment will be issued by Allens Training Pty Ltd.

COURSE DURATION:

FACE-TO-FACE DELIVERY:

Full face-to-face course – 5hr minimum duration.

COURSE DELIVERY:

This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at a facility organised by the training provider.

ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Practical Demonstrations: Simulated scenarios and/or role playing
Knowledge Assessment by trainer during the course

Physical Requirements:

It is important to note that the PUAEME competency standards do require a level of physical ability to meet the evidence requirements for assessment. The physical requirements include:

Getting down to the ground and back up
Lifting and moving life saving equipment around to demonstrate skills
Scenario based activities where a student simulates the role of a first responder.

COURSE CONTENT:

FACE-TO-FACE SESSION

– Performance tasks and practical scenarios:

Perform CPR on an adult (incl. the use of an AED and placing a casualty into the recovery position)
Complete a first aid incident report form based on the adult CPR simulated first aid scenario
- Perform CPR on an infant
Manage a casualty with anaphylaxis
Manage a casualty with asthma
Manage a choking casualty
Manage a casualty with non-life-threatening bleeding and shock, requiring minor wound cleaning
Manage a casualty with a nosebleed
Manage a casualty with a fracture and dislocation
Manage a casualty with a sprain and strain
Manage a casualty with envenomation (snake/ funnel-web spider bite)
Simulated First Aid Scenario – Manage a casualty with a life-threatening bleed
Co-Ordinate a multiple casualty incident

Pre-course Online Theory assessment: Watching videos and answering a theory assessment consisting of multiple-choice questions.
